My Friend Penelope Lee was created to help bring awareness to students who struggle withAutism. Penelope Lee is a first year preschool student who is, alongside her classmates, learning how to properly express and understand her emotions. While her teacher, Ms. P,understands Penelope’s special needs, her class friends are still getting used to her specialways of communicating. Destiny ‘Des’ Strong narrates our story, and helps young readersrecognize the importance of understanding what Autism may look like, and howit may make us feel sometimes. Our emotions may be big, but we can all learn a thing or two about forgiveness and empathy. Especially when we are learning about ourspecial friends with special needs.
